Trailers: ‘Old Dogs’

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

Seth Green in 'Old Dogs'Source: MSN

I should preface this by saying I never saw Wild Hogs. It just looked unbearable. And this is directed by the same guy, Walt Becker. I’m not gonna lie. I actually laughed at this, quite a bit. Yeah it looks stupid, but what can I say? Here’s the trailer for Old Hogs.

Two friends (Travolta and Williams) find their lives turned upside down when strange circumstances involving a major business deal lead to them being placed in the care of seven-year-old twins, as well as caretakers for a recently acquired dog. The film was written by David Diamond and David Weissman, who also wrote Evolution which most people absolutely hate, but I think its hilarious. Okay, I might actually see this.

Gary Ross Writes Lance Armstrong Biopic

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

Lance ArmstrongSource: Risky Business Blog

Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) has signed on to write a biopic of cyclist, Lance Armstrong. The film will be based on Armstrong’s first book, “It’s Not About The Bike” which recounts his difficult Texas upbringing, his cancer diagnosis in 1996, his relationship with his first wife and the birth of their first child, and his amazing comeback that saw him win his first Tour de France in 1999. Frank Marshall and Kennedy are producing the pic through their Kennedy/Marshall banner, and there’s still a possibility that Marshall might direct it himself.

The pic has been long gestating at Columbia Pictures with Jake Gyllenhaal rumoured to play the cyclist, but it was Armstrong’s attempt to come out of retirement this year to try to win a record eighth title that helped kick-start the project. “We got inspired by his comeback, and we were able to get going again,” Marshall said. The film could lens as early as next year.

Diane Lane Rides ‘Secretariat’

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

Diane Lane in 'Untraceable'Source: Variety

Diane Lane is set to star as Penny Chenery in the film, Secretariat, for Disney. The film is based on the true story of the  relationship between the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse and his owner, Chenery. Not to be confused with Seabiscuit, this film is about a mother and housewife who knew little about horse racing when she took over her ailing father’s farm in Virginia. Secretariat became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, but Chenery’s rise to the “first lady of racing” was the real underdog story. However, when Secretariat began to establish himself as a horse with serious potential, Chenery was forced to sell him and everything else after her father died and she was hit with a large inheritance tax. Randall Wallace directs, from a script by Mike Rich.

Viola DavisSource: THR

Viola Davis (Doubt) is set to play unconvential artist, Lynda B. Dozier, on Showtime’s upcoming second season of United States Of Tara. The half-hour drama, which casts Toni Collette as a mother with multiple personalities, was the subject of critical acclaim last year and one of my favorite new shows. Davis will appear in seven of the 12 episodes, playing a significant role in the lives of Tara (Collette) and her daughter Kate (Brie Larson). United States Of Tara was created by Diablo Cody (Juno) from an idea by Steven Speilberg.

Trailers: ‘Shutter Island’

Michelle Williams in 'Shutter Island'

Martin Scorcese has really been knocking them out of the park lately, hasn’t he? Here’s the trailer for his first film since The Departed, Shutter Island. This trailer looks incredible, and I love the dream-like sequences with Michelle Williams. Obviously, poor Leo is losing his mind on this island. Check it out below!

Based on a 2003 Dennis Lehane novel, the story concerns two U.S. marshals in 1954 who are sent to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane on an island in Massachusetts. They run into trouble when they are deceived by others, a hurricane hits and an inmate riot traps them on the island. The film was written by Laeta Kalogridis (Pathfinder, Bionic Woman) and stars Leonard DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley,  Jackie Earle Haley, Patricia Clarkson, and Michelle Williams. It hits theaters October 2nd.

Hayter Finds ‘Deadworld’

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

David HayterSource: Variety

David Hayter (Watchmen) is set to adapt comic series Deadworld into a feature. Working with producer Bill Mechanic, who saw Hayter as the person he thought would be great to develop a multipic story arc. The comic, co-created by Gary Reed, takes place four months after a zombie apocalypse, picks up four months after that event, where the Dead overtake the Earth, with humans few and far between. Protag is King Zombie, a Harley-riding corpse who holds a grudge against the survivors who made him an outcast. “It’s very much about the design of the Deadworld and creating cool, frightening but not necessarily gory creatures,” Hayter said. “I am a huge fan of zombie mythology.” Aside from writing the script, Hayter will conceive and design the look of the film.

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

JJ Abrams and Tom CruiseSource: /Film

JJ Abrams is quickly turning into the most powerful man in Hollywood. Star Trek was a a successfully critically and commercially, and everyone’s wondering what’s next on his plate. Abrams confirms that he’s producing a new Mission: Impossible film with Tom Cruise. He hasn’t committed to directing and no screenwriter has been hired yet., but says he’s incredibly honored that Tom invited him back. “Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing.” I actually really enjoyed MI:3 and wouldn’t mind if Abrams came back, but Abrams is probably looking for much bigger fare.

Mark Millar Plots ‘Kick Ass 2’

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

Kick AssSource: SciFi Wire

In an interview with SciFi Wire, Mark Millar talked about his involvement in Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of his comic, Kick Ass. He let slip that Kick Ass 2 is already being plotted out. “We’re planning it, because all the actors are quite young and we have to make it relatively quickly. So we’ll definitely do that inside the next 18 to 24 months.”

Kick-Ass follows Dave Lizewski, a Manhattan high schooler who moonlights as a costumed superhero.  The comic is ultra-violent and laced with foul language. Millar and Vaughn promise that the film maintains the tone. The film stars Aaron Johnson as Dave; Chloe Moretz as an even younger assassin, Hit Girl; and Nicolas Cage as her father, Big Daddy.
