Stills: ‘Iron Man 2’ From SDCC

Posted by Brian on 07/27/2009

Iron Man 2Source: Comic Book Movie

Here’s a few pretty crap quality pictures from the Iron Man 2 footage that was recently shown at SDCC. None of Black Widow or Justin Hammer. Mostly just Whiplash, Tony Stark and the back of Nick Fury’s head, and a hazy shot of War Machine.

Tony Stark Iron Man 2
War Machine Iron Man 2

Response to the footage has been extremely positive maintaining that the humor and characters have been kept intact. Jon Favreau’s becoming a really great director so I’m really excited to see him up the ante this time with more action.

‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Poster

Posted by Brian on 07/23/2009

A Nightmare On Elm StreetSource: IGN / Myspace

IGN and Myspace have respectively debuted a poster and our first image of Jackie Earle Haley as burned child murderer, Freddy Krueger. Personally, I think Haley looks great but that was never the issue. My issue is with Platinum Dunes and their lack of any kind of intelligent plot. Their movies are MTV videos with gore, nothing more. Tits and blood at the basest level.  But anyway, check it out. It’s still pretty cool stuff.

A Nightmare On Elm Street, based on the Wes Craven original, is being directed by music video director Samuel Bayer from a script by Wesley Strick (Cape Fear). Rooney Mara (Dare, Youth In Revolt) will take on the role of Nancy Thompson, previously inhabited by Heather Langenkamp. The cast also includes Thomas Dekker (Heroes, Terminator: SCC), Kellan Lutz (Accepted, Twilight), Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Harper’s Island), Connie Britton (24, Friday Night Lights) and Clancy Brown (Carnivale, LOST) .

Posters: ‘H2’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’

Posted by Brian on 06/19/2009

Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. in 'Sherlock Holmes'Source: Bloody-Disgusting / Empire

New posters are out for Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel, H2 and Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes, respectively. I really like all of these, with the exception of Robert Downey Jr.’s poster. Looks like he’s about to cast a spell or something. But I really like the look of that H2 poster, considering I hated the first film. The little tuft of hair in his hands evokes so many images. In a time where everything is shown in graphic detail, it’s nice to remember a time when so much was left to the imagination…and ultimately ended up being so much more frightening. I’ve also included another pic from Zombie’s upcoming Michael Myers sequel. It’s…well, I don’t really know what the hell it is.

Stills: ‘District 9’

Posted by Brian on 06/11/2009

District 9Source: Official Site

Today the official District 9 site launched, and premiered a couple of previously unseen shots. Neil Blomkamp was originally slated to direct the Halo adaptation until funding fell through. He and Peter Jackson revived his Alive In Joburg short as a feature film. I really can’t wait to see this. It looks like a great new twist on the alien invasion story.

Stills: [rec 2]

[rec2]Source: Bloody-Disgusting

BD have posted a couple of interesting new shots from [rec2], the upcoming sequel to one of my favorite horror films of the past five years. The first is a shot of more zombie, but the second….well, I really have no idea what the hell is going on in that second shot. Rumors are that the creators of [rec] have jumped the shark with their second film, yet somehow I think it’ll all work better than if an American studio attempted it.

Now I have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in that second shot, but count me in! Also, if you’ve seen the original and pay careful attention to the trailer you’ll notice some characters from the original turning up as ravenous zombies.

Stills: ‘The Princess And The Frog’

Posted by Brian on 06/10/2009

Disney's The Princess And The FrogSource: /Film

Disney has just released a few beautiful stills from their return to hand-drawn animation, The Princess And The Frog. Keep in mind, the pictures are insanely huge, but they are absolutely stunning. I’m so glad that John Lasseter decided to keep this animation division open and not just rely on Pixar. If you didn’t already, this is Disney’s first African-American Princess.

The Walt Disney Studios continues its fairy tale legacy in animation by taking moviegoers on an all-new “once upon a time” musical adventure. Set in the legendary birthplace of jazz – New Orleans, The Princess and the Frog will introduce the newest Disney princess, Tiana, a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. From the heart of Louisiana’s mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, enchantment and discovery with a soulful singing crocodile, voodoo spells and Cajun charm at every turn.

Featuring the voices of Anika Noni Rose (as Princess Tiana), Oprah Winfrey, Keith David, Jim Cummings, John Goodman, Jenifer Lewis, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Peter Bartlett and Terrence Howard. Directed by and based on an original story written by Disney’s acclaimed filmmaking duo John Musker & Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin). Scored and music written by Oscar®-winning songwriter/composer and New Orleans native Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.).

The Princess and the Frog hits theaters with a limited run in New York and LA starting on November 25th, followed by a wide release on December 11th.

Stills: Mickey Rourke As Whiplash In ‘Iron Man 2’

Posted by Brian on 06/09/2009

Mickey Rourke As Whiplash In 'Iron Man 2'(click for hi-res shot)

Jon Favreau has just premiered the first official shot of Mickey Rourke as Russian, Ivan Vanko, in Marvel’s Iron Man 2 via USA Today. Whiplash sports a power center similar to the one used by Iron Man (Downey Jr.). “The technologies are definitely related, and that’s part of the core theme of the film,” says director Jon Favreau. “He’s constructed his own version of Iron Man’s suit.” Whiplash is known for having a pair of whips, powered by the suit’s mini arc-reactor. “Whiplash is going to light them up,” says Rourke.

The first official shot shows Whiplash making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. I think Rourke looks great here, and I can’t wait to see the chemistry between him and Robert Downey Jr., not to mention Sam Rockwell. This film has an amazing cast who can only elevate the first film. Favreau wouldn’t confirm whether Rourke’s Vanko stays true to the comics as a weapons designer working for Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a rival of Tony Stark’s. “We like to play into and against the expectations that people might have so, we mixed it up a bit,” Favreau says. I love that audiences aren’t as familiar with Tony Stark’s villain roster as Batman or Superman, so there’s a certain openness to experimentation and trying to find what suits the actor. “It was very important that the villain be as compelling as can be,” Favreau said. “Once I thought of Mickey in that role, it made me understand how to shape the story.”

Iron Man 2 comes to theaters May 10, 2010, is directed by Jon Favreau and was written by Justin Theroux. The film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johannsen, and Don Cheadle. Thanks to Advanced Iron for providing the high-res shot.

Stills: Morgan Freeman In ‘Invictus’

From some completely random site, here’s a first look at Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming Invictus. Surprisingly, it just looks like Morgan Freeman.

Morgan Freeman in 'Invictus'

The film, previously known as “The Human Factor”, chronicles Nelson Mandela’s life during the 1995 Rugby World Cup which he used as a means to bring his people together after the fall of apartheid. The film is due to be released on December 11.
