Trailers: ‘Tron: Legacy’ High-Def Test Footage

Posted by Brian on 07/24/2009

tronlegacybigSource: Flynn Lives

Wow. It’s like Disney heard me. There aren’t even words to describe how brilliant this teaser for Tron: Legacy looks (which means that Avatar will probably destroy my retinas and leave me shaking in awe & wonder). This footage was discovered at the Flynn Lives site after entering a series of codes, and premiered at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. While not actual footage from the film, this exciting test reel was used to sell the film. Check it out below, or download at the above link in HD and be blown away by so much awesome.

Trailers: ‘Alice In Wonderland’

Posted by Brian on 07/24/2009

Tim Burton's Alice In WonderlandSource: Facebook

Finally, Facebook is good for something. After the pretty crap quality trailer that leaked Thursday, we now have a high definition look at Alice In Wonderland, Tim Burton’s latest remake of demented children’s tales. I personally think this looks perfect for Burton, but Depp seems to be channeling a lot of the silly characters he’s been playing lately (Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka) and I’d personally like to see something a lot darker for this.

The film will be released March 5th 2010, and will use a technique combining live action, motion capture technology, and stop motion. Mia Wasikowska will play the role of Alice, alongside Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen. The script was written by Linda Wolverton (Beauty And The Beast, The Lion King)

Trailers: ‘The Box’

Posted by Brian on 06/25/2009

The BoxSource: AOL

Donnie Darko left me breathless, literally. The credits came up, my mouth was wide open, and I was completely in awe. Southland Tales left me another kind of breathless; pissed off, mouth agape in confused wonder. So with that, I present the trailer for Richard Kelly’s follow-up The Box, based on Richard Matheson’s short story, “Button, Button”, which later became a Twilight Zone episode. The story concerns a married couple who are offered a simple proposition: “Push the button and you’ll receive a million dollars, however; somewhere, someone you don’t know will die.” What would you do?

This trailer is a poor example (mostly the music), but I believe we’re in for something special. When I finished the script for his upcoming adaptation of  I actually had to stop a moment to pause. This isn’t like anything we’ve gotten from Richard Kelly before. It’s much darker than Darko, insanely more cohesive than Tales, and more mainstream than both. It’s a disturbing story, with a great hook, and an amazing ending. I don’t know what draft I read, but I’m really excited for Kelly to prove everyone wrong. The film stars Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. It is being scored by Win Butler, Regine Chassagne, and Owen Pallett, of Arcade Fire and Final Fantasy fame, respectively.

Trailers: ‘The Last Airbender’

Posted by Brian on 06/23/2009

The Last AirbenderHere’s the teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation of the Nickelodeon cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender. I personally think this looks great, but Shyamalan’s problem has never been directing; it’s his storytelling. Hopefully working from a source where he isn’t creating everything is what he needs to get reinvigorated. The film stars newcomer Noah Ringer, Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Nicola Peltz, and Jackson Rathbone (Twilight).

Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a fantasy world that is home to humans, fantastic animals, and spirits. Human civilization is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Air Nomads, and the Fire Nation. Each nation has its own natural element, on which it bases its society. Within each nation exists an order called “Benders” who have the ability to manipulate the eponymous element of their nation.

Trailers: ‘The Pacific’

Posted by Brian on 06/22/2009

The PacificSource: Pacific Fansite

The following trailer debuted during last night’s episode of True Blood which, apparently to me only, was miles above the premiere in terms of entertainment value. The Pacific is similiar but unrelated to HBO’s Band Of Brothers, in that this mini-series focuses the United States Marine Corps‘s actions in the Pacific Theater Of Operations. The series will feature well-known battles involving the 1st Marine Division, such as Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa, as well as Basilone’s involvement in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

The Pacific is produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Speilberg, and Gary Goetzman. The series was written by Bruce McKenna (Band Of Brothers) and Greg Pelecanos (The Wire).

Trailers: ‘World’s Greatest Dad’

Posted by Brian on 06/19/2009

Bobcat Goldthwait and Robin WilliamsSource: First Showing

Magnolia has debuted a red band trailer for Bobcat Goldthwait’s sophomore directorial effort, World’s Greatest Dad, starring Robin Williams. The film is a very dark comedy about a man (Robin Williams) who learns that the things you want most may not be the things that make you happy, and that being lonely is not necessarily the same as being alone. This actually looks pretty damn hilarious. Goldthwait directed Sleeping Dogs Lie in 2006, about a girl whose relationships are destroyed when she reluctantly reveals a past indiscretion with a pet. Check out the trailer below.

Apparently, the trailer doesn’t get into the big reveal of the story which, if it’s anything like Lie, I’m totally in for. Bobcat Goldthwait is a better director than I ever thought he’d be. The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was ebought by Magnolia Pictures for distribution in the US. It will arrive in very limited theaters starting on August 21st as well as Xbox Live and VOD starting July 24th.

Trailers: ‘Fame’

Posted by Brian on 06/19/2009

FameSource: Apple

Here’s a second trailer for the upcoming Fame that plays less like a trailer for the okay Center Stage, and actually makes this look like something worth watching. A reinvention of the original Oscar®-winning hit film, Fame follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts, a diverse, creative powerhouse where students from all walks of life are given a chance to live out their dreams and achieve real and lasting fame. In an incredibly competitive atmosphere, plagued by self-doubt, each student’s passion will be put to the test.

The film was directed by Kevin Tancharoen and written by from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada)and Allison Burnett, and stars Naturi Naughton (Notorious), Kay Panabaker, Asher Book, Charles S. Dutton, Kelsey Grammar, Bebe Neuwirth, Megan Mullally, and Debbie Allen.

Trailers: ‘Cold Souls’

Posted by Brian on 06/18/2009

Cold SoulsSource: Apple

Apple has just premiered the trailer for Paul Giamatti’s upcoming film Cold Souls, written and directed by Sophia Barthes. The film also stars Emily Watson, David Straitham, Kathryn Winnick, and Lauren Ambrose. Described as a metaphysical comedy, in the film souls can be extracted and traded as commodities. Also check out this really cool poster.

Cold Souls

While agonizing over his interpretation of Uncle Vanya and paralyzed with anxiety, Giamatti stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by deep-freezing souls. He enlists their services, intending to reinstate his soul once he survives the performance. But complications ensue when a mysterious, soul-trafficking mule borrows Giamatti’s stored soul for an ambitious, but unfortunately talentless, soap-opera actress. Rendered soulless, he is left with no choice but to follow the trail back to St. Petersburg.

Trailers: ‘Zombieland’

Posted by Brian on 06/18/2009

ZombielandSource: Apple

Here’s the trailer for Zombieland, which can almost be seen as a sequel of sorts for young star Jesse Eisenberg who was last seen in Greg Mottola’s Adventureland. This movie is the reason Woody Harrelson allegedly fought some photographer he said he mistook for a zombie when the man harrassed Harrelson and his daughter in the airport.

Columbus (Eisenberg) has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee (Harrelson) doesn’t have fears. If he did, he’d kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they’re about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other. The film also stars Emma Stone (Superbad), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Amber Heard (The Stepfather), Mila Kunis, and Bill Murray. It was directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
