Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have set Justin Theroux to direct Chief Ron. The film, written by Jordan Roberts, is a comedy concerning a conman who claims Mohegan ancestry in an attempt to open a casino. Mohegans are an Algonquian-speaking tribe that lives in eastern upper Thames valley Connecticut. The film is based on the true story of Chief Ron Roberts whose blonde hair and blue eyes raised skepticism over his ancestral claims, but he prevailed in court and is now building a casino in upstate New York.
Theroux scripted the now filming Iron Man 2 and co-scripted last summer’s hilarious Tropic Thunder. He made his directorial debut with the film, Dedication. David Gordon Green executive produces, alongside Grant Morris, and Imagine Entertainment’s Erica Huggins.
