Trailers: ‘Grace’

Posted by Brian on 06/16/2009

GraceSource: IGN / Youtube

Here are two trailers for the upcoming Anchor Bay release, Grace. Good reviews coupled with reports of people passing out at viewings makes me really interested in seeing this. The first is a green band trailer that debuted on IGN. The second, which I prefer, is apparently some version of a red band trailer. Check them both out below.

Grace, written and directed by Peter Solet, revolves around Madeline Matheson (Jordan Ladd) who is eight months pregnant. When an accident leaves Grace dead inside her, Madeline insists on carrying the baby to term. Weeks later, when Madeline delivers naturally, the child miraculously returns to life with an insatiable hunger. No release date has been finalized.

Trailers: ‘Whiteout’

Posted by Brian on 06/16/2009

Kate Beckinsale in 'Whiteout'Source: Youtube

Here’s an awesome teaser trailer for Warner Brothers upcoming Whiteout, which has been pulled by the studio. We can probably expect it to be released officially next week, but here’s the Youtube version until otherwise. The story follows a U.S. Marshal assigned to Antarctica whose investigation of the continent’s first murder draws her into a shocking mystery. Now, with only three days until winter, Carrie must solve the crime before Antarctica is plunged into darkness and she is stranded with the killer. If the video isn’t working, just copy the URL from the share button.

I love the creepy voiceover. They’ve been using it for awhile to sell it all those “Based On A True Story…” type films. It seems a lot more effective here. The film was directed by Dominic Sena, and based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka. It stars Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), Tom Skerritt (Top Gun, Contact), Columbus Short (Quarantine, Stomp The Yard), and Gabriel Macht (The Spirit). and is set to be released September 11th, 2009.

Clips: 12 Minutes Of Ronald D. Moore’s ‘Virtuality’

Posted by Brian on 06/16/2009

Cast of 'Virtuality'Source: James Hibbard’s Live Feed

Here’s a really cool extended sneak peek at Ronald D. Moore’s (Battlestar Galactica), Virtuality.

The two hour pilot follows about a dozen astronauts, the subject of a futuristic reality television show, on a journey crucial to the survival of life on Earth. The crew of the Phaeton is approaching the go/no-go point of their epic 10-year journey through outer space. With the fate of Earth in their hands, the pressure is intense. The best bet for helping the crew members maintain their sanity is the cutting-edge virtual reality technology installed on the ship. It’s the perfect stress-reliever until they realize a glitch in the system has unleashed a virus on to the ship. Tensions mount as the crew decides how to contain the virus and complete their mission.

Since Fox sucks huge, they’ve dumped the two-hour pilot as a movie on a Friday in the Summer (June 26th to be exact) and pretty much destroyed any hope that this will get a series pickup. But that’s exactly what I thought about Dollhouse so who knows? Seems really cool, though.

Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki See The ‘Dawn’

Posted by Brian on 06/16/2009

Adrianne PalickiSource: THR

Josh Peck (The Wackness, Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs) and Adrianne Palicki (Supernatural, Friday Night Lights) are joining Chris Hemsworth (Perfect Getaway, Cabin In The Woods) in MGM/UA’s remake of Red Dawn. Based on the 1984 Cold War-era film co-written and directed by John Milius, Dawn is the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

Peck will play Matt Eckert, the hotheaded younger brother of Jed Eckert (Hemsworth) and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team, in a role originated by Charlie Sheen. Palicki will play Toni, a tough fighter the brothers encounter who develops romantic feelings for Jed, a Marine home on leave and the group’s de facto leader. Dan Bradley, a stunt coordinator and second-unit director on The Bourne Ultimatum and Quantum of Solace, will direct the remake from a script by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth. The film shoots this September.

Sean Penn Takes Hiatus

Posted by Brian on 06/16/2009

Sean Penn in 'The Interpreter'Source: THR

Sean Penn has informed two productions slated to shoot this year that he will be taking time away from Hollywood to focus on his family. Sources claim it could last up to a year, but nothing concrete is known. He recently rescinded his legal seperation case with wife, Robin Wright-Penn, for the second time in their marriage. Penn was slated to shoot Cartel, a crime thriller about a man who journeys to protect his son after his wife is murdered by Mexican drug cartels. The plan is to recast the role while the script is still currently being worked on, with Asger Leth at the helm. Penn was also to begin production in August on the Farrelly Brothers’ highly anticipated Three Stooges, alongside Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro.

Penn’s leave puts production in jeopardy as waiting for Penn to return could lose Carry and Del Toro. The film is already set for a March 2010 release date, and timing is everything in Hollywood. Schedules tend to fill up at warp speed, so it’s unclear whether the Farrelly Brothers will recast and try to work something else out. He will next be seen in Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life, and Doug Liman’s adaptation of Valerie Plame’s political memoir, Fair Game.

Jack Black Is A ‘Man-Witch’

Posted by Brian on 06/16/2009

Jack BlackSource: Dark Horizons

Jack Black is set to play a schoolteacher who suddenly discovers he has witch-like abilities. Taken in by a coven, he is persuaded to attend a school for witches, only to discover that his classmates are all girls.

“It’s looking like Man-Witch is a go at Warner Bros. I can’t say much about it at this point because the casting hasn’t been officially announced but it’s looking really, really good” says Josh Stolberg (Good Luck Chuck, Piranha 3D). Stolberg’s credits don’t really do anything for me, but Todd Phillips (Old School, The Hangover) is directing so this could be pretty hilarious. Phillips is coming off the success of The Hangover, and currently working on ideas for a sequel to that film.
