Freddie Prinze Jr. (Scooby Doo) has reportedly signed on to join the eighth season of Fox’s series 24, which went into production this past Wednesday. Prinze has signed on for the role of David Cole, a recently returned Marine who runs CTU Field Ops and wants to follow in Jack Bauer’s (Kiefer Sutherland) footsteps.

Prinze recently co-starred in the pilot for an ABC series titled No Heroics, an American led remake of ITV’s first original sitcom about “the love lives and day-to-day trials of a group of friends who just happen to be off-duty superheroes.” It was not picked up by ABC.

Prinze joins fellow new cast additions Anil Kapoor, who plays a Middle East leader; Chris Diamantopoulos, as the president’s new chief of staff; and John Boyd as a CTU systems analyst. All of them are regulars, while Jennifer Westfeldt has come aboard as a recurring, playing a a journalist.

Returning cast members include Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer; Cherry Jones as President Allison Taylor; Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O’Brien; and Annie Wersching as FBI Agent Renee Walker.

24 has began the new season and I love Cole. Thrilled to have Jack Bauer back. Best series ever. Been a fan since day one.
