‘Final Destination 4’ Poster

The Final Destination series is an odd one.The first movie was good kitchy fun, with kills that absolutely no one was expecting. The second film ramped up everything about the first one with an amazing opening sequence, a much more interesting story that investigated the rules of Death further, and characters that weren’t completely stupid. Final Destination 3 was, well, meh. The opening rollercoaster disaster felt half-assed and the movie itself felt weak, and relied on a gimmick of seeing your death in photos. It did nothing but introduce us to Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and God bless you for that.
Now comes the fourth film in the series, which is apparently titled The Final Destination. Are we to infer that Death has finally figured out a way to tidy up all those loose ends? Only time will tell. In the meantime, UGO have debuted a pretty cool poster for the film.
Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend and their friends to leave…escaping seconds before Nick’s frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they’ve cheated death, it is only the beginning.
Pretty nice, huh? It hints back at the older movies without being a blatant ripoff. Hopefully that says more for the film than the poster. David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Snakes On A Plane) is back to direct from a script by Eric Bress (The Butterfly Effect, Kyle XY). The Final Destination will be released to theaters August 28, 2009.
