Chris Pine Is ‘Unstoppable’

Posted by Brian on 06/04/2009

Chris Pine, fresh off a huge win with his star-making turn in Star Trek, has signed on to co-star with Denzel Washington in Tony Scott’s upcoming Unstoppable. The film based on a script by Mark Bomback story centers on an experienced train engineer (Washington) about to be laid off as part of company cutbacks and the newbie conductor hired to replace him. Pine would play the newbie as they find themselves in a race against time to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying enough combustible liquids and poisonous gas to wipe out a nearby city.

I’ve really enjoyed Pine in the few films I’ve seen him in. He was demented genius in Smokin’ Aces, and I couldn’t even belive it was the same person when they announced him for Star Trek. He turned out to be a perfect choice, so I really can’t wait to see what he does next.

Death comes again for ridiculously good looking teenagers in the fourth installment, this time titled The Final Destination. Is this the last film in the franchise? Not if your hard spent dollars have anything to say about it. Myspace has premiered a new trailer for the film which looks miles above the ridiculously campy third installment.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The film is directed by David R. Ellis and written by Eric Bress, both of whom worked on the series’ best entry, Final Destination 2. The Final Destination hits in August.

Taraji P. Henson To Mother ‘Karate Kid’

Posted by Brian on 06/04/2009

06Source: MTV Movies Blog

Taraji P. Henson (Baby Boy, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) revealed to MTV exclusively at last week’s MTV Movie Awards that she had recently signed on to a remake of The Karate Kid. “I’m off to Beijing [soon] to work on a film,” she told MTV. “They’re remaking ‘The Karate Kid.’”

Henson will play Sherry, a single mother who is forced to move with her son to China in order to keep her job. Will Smith’s son, Jaden Smith, will be playing Dre (the Daniel Larusso character) while Jackie Chan plays Mr. Han (the Mr. Miyagi character).  The film has been toying with the title Kung-Fu Kid, but nothing concrete has been determined. Henson is currently filming a comedy titled Date Night with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey, and will fly to Beijing afterwards to start work on the remake/reboot.

I’m not at all sure about this. Remakes are a given at this point so complaining would be pointless, but there is absolutely no one I know that likes Jaden Smith as an actor. And forget the whole “he’s a kid” thing. He single-handedly crippled The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, not like it was hard to begin with, but everything about him just exuded a “I’d rather see him laid to waste by Klaatu” vibe.

Dan Milano To Write New ‘Short Circuit’

Posted by Brian on 06/04/2009

Dimension Films have tapped Greg The Bunny co-creator and current Robot Chicken writer, Dan Milano, to resurrect Johnny Five in a remake of the 1986 film Short Circuit. David Foster, who produced the original and is back to produce the remake with Ryan E. Heppe and John Hyde, said that Milano sparked to updating the concept by bringing a subversive edge to the original material.

I’m actually quite excited about this. Dan Milano co-created the criminally underrated Greg The Bunny and while he is more associated with the title character it was his alcoholic Shakesperian stage actor, Warren The Ape, that really stole the show.

“We’re bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals,” Foster said. There are also no plans to change the look of Johnny Five, Foster states.

“We think of ‘Wall-E’ as an extended trailer for our film, because it’s the same face,” Foster said.

David Carradine Found Dead

Posted by Brian on 06/04/2009

Source: The Nation

Update 9:15PM: New updates are emerging that the actor may have died as a result of a sex-game. According to BNONews, “Thai police have taken back their position that Carradine likely died as a result of a suicide. According to the Bangkok Post, the actor was found naked, curled up inside the wardrobe with one end of a shoelace tied around his penis and the other end fastened around his neck. Both of his hands were bound with a cord which was also tied around his neck, an unnamed police officer told the newspaper. It is believed Carradine died some 12 to 24 hours before he was found by the hotel maid. Forensic experts have also reportedly found a footprint on the bed which did not match the shoes worn by the actor. There was also a glass of water in the room and experts are checking to see if the drink had been tampered with. Official information surrounding his death remains sketchy at this time.”

Update 11:30AM: David Carradine’s death has been confirmed by both his agent and US State Department officials, though there is speculation about the exact cause of death. His agent stated he believes that Carradine died of natural causes. I’ll keep this updated when an exact cause is stated.

Television’s Kung Fu and Kill Bill star, David Carradine was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok Wednesday morning. Carradine, 72, was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and had been staying at the Park Nai Lert Hotel on Wireless Road since June 2. The film crew were aware of his absence when they went to dinner June 3rd. They assumed, because of his age, that maybe he was resting when he failed to respond to phone calls.

A hotel maid who opened his suite on Thursday at 10 am found Carradine in a closet, half naked, in an apparent suicide. Police investigation showed that he hung himself with a rope, the kind that is used with curtains. Sources said he was dead for not less than 12 hours and found no sign of fighting and assaults.

Carradine was most recently seen in Crank 2: High Voltage in which he played an elderly Chinese mobster. While being known for his early work on Kung Fu, Carradine had noticed a huge resurgence in popularity when he signed on to play the eponoymous villain in Quentin Tarantino’s two-part Kill Bill.

Our condolences go out to his family. I didn’t get into Carradine until the Kill Bill series, but he was the ultimate in cool. His talent will be sorely missed.
